Cephus E. Simmons

Founder and CEO of SealCath

Cephus E. Simmons is the founder and CEO of SealCath and the inventor of the Cephus Catheter. Additionally, he is a Radiologist Assistant at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where he supports clinical operations, advises radiologic technologists, and instructs radiology residents and medical school students.

A former hospital corpsman in the US Navy, Cephus has always had a passion for helping the sick. During his time with MUSC, he spearheaded three innovations that have improved the way the hospital delivers care:

  • A protocol for changing gastrojejunostomy (GJ) feeding tubes, which has eliminated the need for patients to return to the Emergency Room when their catheter is dysfunctional.
  • A protocol for more efficiently scheduling Pediatric Musculoskeletal (MSK) procedures, which has given patients almost immediate access to medical care and freed up important resources.
  • An adult ultrasound (US) guided procedure program at MUSC’s Ashley River Tower (ART) Hospital designed to improve interdepartmental communication, facilitate timely appointments, and improve patient care.

In all that he does, Cephus strives to improve the procedures he performs. It is this goal that led him to his invention of the double balloon catheter, which will improve healthcare for patients of all ages.
